ok, got the D44 in and drove it about 3 days before I thought the brake cyl was leaking, figured easy fix. took the wheel off and found its the axle leaking. started to take it apart. took brakes off. took 4 retainer plate nuts off. broke retainer plate loost. you can see the seal is shot. the rubber is half missing. I read the d44 does not have c clips. but I can not get this thing out. I have removed the brake cylinder to get a chisel on the back for a good smack and its not moving. do I need a bigger hammer or am I missing something? thanks for any help..

Its just stuck. Some constant pressure and a smack at the same time should pop it free.
THIS IS GONNA HURT!!!!!

Hey Guy: You need one of these it’s called a Slide Hammer this one is from Harbor Freight it makes things a lot simpler they also make an attachment to remove seals and axle bearing from C-clip axle tubes………… Later Com

I don't know... Might have C clips? Dana 30s don't have C Clips... But I took one apart once that had them!! Look inside and see, best bet.
There's a round flange the outside of the shaft, right? Once the bolts are removed... Knock the flange with a hammer, or pry it out with something, the shaft should slide out.. If it's not coming loose, something is holding it in.

looked inside and no c-clips so I used bigger hammer... worked great. now to get parts. we have a slide hammer and puller at work but I didnt feel like seeing that place on a weekend. we also have presses which I will use to remove and seat the bearing and spacer(after work hours, of course). I should have done this before I put it in but it wasnt leaking on the bench so I crossed my fingers and got screwed. thanks for the replies..

What if u Leave it in... And take out the bearing at home, that way u ain't gotta pull the axle.
What I mean is... If he's beating it with a hammer, and it's not coming out... Don't keep beating on it forever, chances are there's something else holding it.
