I'm getting ready to start fabbing my rear truss,
I don't want to do a full box truss like I did my front...
I'm gonna do a bridge truss that spans across the top
of the rear diff and welds to the axle tubes.

My options:

I can use 3/8 plate and bend it to form a truss, and gusset it
on the inside for strength.

Or I can use 2x2 square tube, notched and bent.

I'm not sure the 3/8 plate will be strong enough alone,
but if I added short sides to the plate it would add rigidity.

I'm gonna tie the truss into the pinion skid plate that I have
which bolts to the 14 bolt pinion 3rd member, so this will add support
too the top/center of the bridge (Similar to Blue Torch Fab's truss designs)

Which option do u think is better?

the 2x2 is bulky and will look like shit

the flat plate with the pinion brace will work just fine.
go with 1/2" instead of 3/8" on the main truss and omitt the short sides.

For the brace going to the pinion, the load will mainly be tension and compression so
1/4" or 5/16" should suffice if you keep the front mounted low close to the pinion

for additional lateral support maybe add a small 45* guesset where the truss joins the axle tube
on the inside corners with a hole in the center and dimple died for eye candy

I was thinking 1/2" would be better, but I only have 3/8" plate
here in the garage. I think I'm gonna do 3/8" with some inner gusseting
and braces at each bend. Then 1/4" extension which goes to the
pinion skid plate & bolts together so the pinion skid can be removed.
... Just like the Blue Torch set up.

Ok cool.. Thanks

That's pretty much exactly what I was thinking,
is that 3/8?

Except on mine, I got a wishbone upper... So I'll have
one big 1.25" heim on top the truss.

Sweet... I'm pumped to get started now.
